Vacation Day One: Treaure Island

As soon as we arrived in chilly Florida, we headed straight for Treasure Island. We arrived much earlier than we could check into our hotel, so we decided to drive around.

In order to get to Treasure Island, we had to cross this bridge that went through the middle of the Bay. It was amazing! It was like you were driving on the water. The bridge was about 15 miles long and nothing but water surrounded you on both sides. The day was chilly and very windy so the waves were even splashing up onto the highway. I tried to get some shots from the car but I had no luck. It's prohibited to pull over on the bridge unless it's an emergency.

So we crossed the bridge and ended up in St. Petersburg. It was a beautiful place to be, even if it was cold. We wound through the newer districts, stopping to glance at all the different stores and strange signs. Like the one below. LOL! There were several of the shops right near the beaches. LOL!

We finally made it to Treasure Island Beach and Izabel just about jumped out of the car still buckled in her car seat. She was so excited to see the sand, the water and of course, the sea shells.

I'll most likely say this over and over again, but it was freezing. The winds were forceful and the water ice cold. That didn't stop Izabel. She sifted through shells oblivious to the wind and the snot running from her nose. Emily on the other hand wanted to go straight back to the car and wait. She and I did for awhile, but we re-bundled as best as we could and went out once more for a good run on the beach.

We loved driving around this little beach area. So many cute houses. I loved seeing the cabins on the beach built on stilts to keep them up from the water. There were lots of odd colors for homes; purple, blues, pinks and turquoise were very popular. Once "cabin" was even on the market. It sat right on the beach, had a great parking area and was probably the size of our bathroom. It was listed at $899,000. Not bad huh? Ha!

Treasure Island was a great way to start our vacation. Izzy loves the whole pirates and digging for treasure things so this was perfect for her. She saw everything she wanted to and more. I'd recommend this little place for a visit if you are in the area. They have a few other beaches that are beautiful as well, including the amazing Sunset Beach.
